Hussain Dawood conferred Hilal-e-Imtiaz for philanthropy

Celebrated philanthropist Mr. Hussain Dawood has been awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honours, in recognition of his contributions to Pakistan.

Mr. Dawood has championed efforts to transform education at the grassroots level. Science, research, and innovation are the backbone of national progress, yet Pakistan has struggled to build a strong foundation in these fields. Recognizing this gap, he inaugurated the TDF MagnifiScience Centre to make science learning accessible for children and young adults. His family’s longstanding commitment to education also includes the establishment of the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (which was later nationalized and elevated to a University) and Dawood Public School, which has provided high-quality education to girls since the 1980s. More recently, he played a key role in founding the Karachi School of Business & Leadership which focuses on character-driven leadership for Pakistan’s private and social sectors.

Beyond philanthropy, Mr. Dawood has played a key role in shaping Pakistan’s economic landscape through Engro’s investments. With his leadership of the Board over the past 20 years, Engro has set up projects in fertilizers, foods, energy, petrochemicals, and telecom infrastructure, providing employment to thousands and contributing to real economic growth. He has also been a vocal advocate for truth-telling and transparency, believing that Pakistan’s global reputation depends on openly confronting its challenges.

In 2020, he pledged Rs. 1 billion towards Pakistan’s COVID-19 response, funding relief efforts to underprivileged groups and supporting frontline healthcare workers. It is encouraging to see leaders like him being recognized for their immense contributions to the Country’s development.
