Realme India with a recent announcement regarding its upcoming smartphones, particularly the highly anticipated Realme 12 Pro. The company’s cryptic post boldly declares, “It’s time for #Periscope,” intriguing enthusiasts and hinting at a significant development in imaging technology.
The announcement dismisses the earlier buzz around a “200MP” module, crossing it out to emphasize the focus on #Periscope technology. Realme’s teaser page, linked in the post, explores the advantages of incorporating a genuine periscope lens, offering a unique perspective compared to traditional in-sensor zoom technology.
The key advantages highlighted include a notable improvement in image clarity, especially at high zoom levels. The teaser also features a compelling example showcasing the prowess of the periscope lens in achieving superior subject-background separation, particularly in portrait photography.
Excitingly, the Realme 12 Pro has surfaced on TENAA, further fueling speculation about the inclusion of a periscope lens in its camera setup. Rumors also suggest that the Realme 12 Pro+ may follow suit with its own periscope technology. However, the presence of a periscope lens doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of a 200MP camera in the Pro+ variant, as seen in the previous Realme 11 Pro+. While the latter featured a 200MP sensor, it lacked optical zoom capabilities.
Despite the growing prevalence of 200MP cameras in budget phones, Realme emphasizes that true flagship status requires a periscope lens, introducing their new marketing slogan, “No periscope. No flagship.”
Interestingly, Realme’s rival, Redmi, is also unveiling its latest Note 13 series in India, boasting both 200MP cameras and periscope lenses. This head-to-head competition in innovative camera technology adds a layer of excitement to the smartphone landscape, creating anticipation among consumers for the latest advancements in mobile photography.
