The meeting of the National Assembly’s Subcommittee on Information Technology was held under the convenership of Sher Ali Arbab. Members Umair Khan Niazi, Mahesh Kumar, and Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti attended the session.
The committee was briefed on the ongoing issues related to Long Distance International (LDI) cases. Following the discussion, the committee directed authorities to present a detailed report in the upcoming session. The convener emphasized the need for comprehensive stakeholder input in the matter.
Sher Ali Arbab stated that he wants to hear from the nine blocked LDI companies. However, Law and Justice Division officials advised that stakeholders should be invited from every political party, but not in the form of pressure groups or delegations. The committee chair directed that only two individuals per stakeholder group should be invited to maintain order and focus during discussions.
The subcommittee has also summoned a detailed briefing on the 4G and 5G spectrum in its next session. The committee highlighted the urgent need to identify and address the barriers delaying the auction of 4G and 5G spectrum in Pakistan. Members emphasized the importance of taking timely action to improve the country’s digital infrastructure and services.
The committee has directed that stakeholders from the spectrum-related companies be invited to share their perspectives and challenges. It was further instructed that the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Secretary of the Ministry of IT be called to the next meeting of the subcommittee to provide their official stance and input.
