Country’s premier university equips its leadership with global-standard mediation credentials through a partnership with MICADR
LUMS, the country’s premier university, has partnered with the Legal Aid Society (LAS) and the Musaliha International Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MICADR) to deliver an internationally accredited Mediation Skills Training Program — a major step in advancing Pakistan’s dispute resolution landscape.
Held from 30th May to 3rd June 2025 at the LUMS campus, the 40-hour training was certified by the International Mediation Institute (IMI) and attended by senior leadership, faculty, and alumni of LUMS. It offered an immersive learning experience in mediation theory, negotiation frameworks, and high-stakes roleplay simulations across civil, family, and commercial disputes.
Dr. Sadaf Aziz, Dean of the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law at LUMS, called the program “intellectually profound and professionally catalytic,” stating it marks a shift in how legal education and practice are imagined in Pakistan.
MICADR Co-Founder Shahzar Ilahi remarked, “When a university like LUMS makes this kind of investment, it signals to courts, investors, and the global market that Pakistan is serious about justice reform.”
With the Supreme Court promoting mediation and Pakistan recently joining the Singapore Convention and International Organization for Mediation, this training marks a significant leap in institutional readiness.
By training a cadre of globally certified mediators, LUMS is now positioned at the heart of Pakistan’s mediation ecosystem — ready to lead not only in legal education, but in real-time conflict resolution.
