Interactive AI to break onto the scene in 2024

Interactive AI, such as Chat GPT, Bard, and Llama, was relatively unknown just a year ago. These AI chatbots aimed to enhance productivity but raised concerns about potential job displacement for millions. However, these assistants have since proven beneficial globally, enabling users to create content more efficiently. Despite initial fears of massive layoffs, such scenarios have not materialized.

Over the past year, numerous alternatives have emerged, specializing in diverse areas like app coding, video production, graphic content creation, and music generation. While these chatbots leverage powerful large language models, critics argue that they often produce bland or biased content.

In response to such criticisms, Tesla founder Elon Musk introduced Grok, an AI assistant with a purported sense of humor and a rebellious streak. However, even Grok has faced accusations of political bias.

As the AI landscape becomes increasingly competitive, industry leaders, including Google DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman, predict that the future of AI assistants lies in advanced human interaction. Suleyman envisions an “interactive phase” where conversation becomes the primary interface, allowing users to engage in deeper, more natural conversations with their AI.

Interactive AI is expected to surpass simple command-response systems like Amazon’s Alexa, demonstrating more human-like responses and the ability to make autonomous decisions. This technology will also facilitate communication between AI entities and adapt to user preferences, offering a more personalized and user-friendly experience.

Experts anticipate that Interactive AI will enhance customer service, troubleshoot issues, and aid sales and marketing by delivering personalized communication based on individual needs. The technology’s adaptability to user feedback will enable computers to function more similarly to human thought processes.

Some companies are already pushing the boundaries of interactivity, with platforms like Pi AI and Character.ai paving the way for more sophisticated Interactive AI experiences. While Suleyman believes that Interactive AI will gain prominence in 2024, others suggest that true interactivity with chatbots might still be a few years away.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates predicts that AI will soon “supercharge the innovation pipeline,” with widespread use expected in high-income countries within 18 to 24 months. However, concerns persist about potential job displacement, particularly in creative, finance, legal, and medical sectors.

As AI continues to advance, there are also warnings about the proliferation of AI-generated deepfake videos and disinformation, especially leading up to the US presidential election in November 2024. Some experts fear that this election could mark the advent of the first “deepfake election,” where distinguishing between real and manipulated content becomes challenging for voters.
